A quick word on the l.e.d foam wand trend.

Over the last few years, there has been a recent trend of wedding couples buying LED foam wands (also marketed as ‘glow sticks’) for their reception parties. These are handed out to their guests for whilst they’re dancing. When the party is over, I invariably see them stuffed into black plastic bin liners, often up to a hundred at a time, to be sent off to landfill.

Please be aware that these wands are manufactured in China and shipped thousands of miles over seas to get here, only to be used for a few brief hours before being disposed of. They contain lithium batteries (often three at a time), plastic coated wires, LEDs, plastic foam that doesn’t biodegrade, and microchips. They are not recycleable.

I would urge couples getting married to think about the environmental impact of such gimmicks, just as we should all be doing in all aspects of our lives.

Believe me. They won’t make your party any better, they won’t make people dance who wouldn’t have danced anyway, and, as a personal opinion, they’re just kinda tacky.

Rant over. ✌️
